DR. DONALD W. KIRK

University of Toronto

Donald Kirk is a full-time Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Toronto. Dr. Kirk was a recipient of the Ontario Ministry of Environment Excellence in Research Award and the NSERC University Research Fellowship. He has 47 publications and 15 technical reports to his credit and has refereed 11 conference proceedings and presented 33 papers. Dr. Kirk developed four patents and has now six pending patents for approval.

His research interests include the following:

  • Electrochemical reaction engineering, design, modelling, use of fluidized bed and porous flow-through electrodes
  • Reaction kinetic studies
  • Applications in precious metal recovery
  • Industrial pollution control
  • Metal dissolution and organic electrosynthesis
  • Environmental studies (characterization, recovery, treatment and recycling)

Dr. Kirk received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and M.A. Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He is an active member of the PBC and was the Chairman of the Technical Program Committee of the 9th Pacific Basin Conference on Hazardous Waste. He was appointed to the board of the Pacific Basin Consortium last April 2000.
