Dr. Ja-Kong Koo is a Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. He is a member of several advisory committees in South Korea which includes Ministry of Environment for Industrial Environmental Management System, Eco-Labeling and Soil Environment, Korea Highway Cooperation, Environmental Conservation, the City of Taejon, Deliberative Committee of Specific Research and Development Program, and Ministry of Science and Technology. Dr. Koo was appointed to the board of the Pacific Basin Consortium last April 2000.

Dr. Koo’s major field of specialization includes the following:

• Environmental Chemistry
• Waste Management & Engineering
• Soil & Groundwater Pollution
• Remediation
• Eco-Engineering
• Environmental Management & Creation Systems.

Dr. Koo received his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, USA and his M.Sc. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA.
